1.      Why did Mildred try to kill herself?
     ~ Mildred is unhappy and stays that way throughout the book. Like Montag, she is not content with the life she is living, but does not find any outlets in which to express this, which is why she needs her “family” and why she attempts suicide.

 

2.      How did Clarisse know so much at such a young age?
      ~Clarisse’s uncle taught her a lot because he felt it was necessary. This caused Clarisse to be out of the ordinary and unique

 

3.      How did Guy become a fireman? Why?
      ~ It’s tradition in the family. He is the 3rd generation to become a fireman. Guy doesn’t know that firemen used to put out fires instead of create them, but it could be that his earlier ancestors may have been that sort of firemen.

 

4.      Why doesn’t Mildred want to have children?
      ~ Mildred probably doubts her abilities to take care of children. Perhaps Mildred had a difficult childhood herself and doesn’t want her possible kids to experience the same.

 

5.      Is there something wrong with the hound? And if so, what?
      ~ There’s nothing wrong with the Hound. It’s just doing its job. The Hound can detect that Montag’s faithfulness to the government is beginning to deteriorate and is giving him a warning about what could happen if this behavior continues.

 

6.      What era did the novel take place in?
       ~ One does not know. Although one can tell,  that it took place in some type of futuristic society

 

7.      Why did the books become banned?
       ~ Books became banned because people began stopped reading them and began watching TV instead. So the government felt it was for the best. Also because they made people feel things they did not want to feel or the government thought they shouldn’t feel.

 

8.      Why does Clarisse choose to look at the world at night verse during the day?
        ~ Because during the day there are many people and cars. And at night it was peaceful and empty.

 

9.      Do you (the reader) understand why it is banned?

       ~ People began to fear that what had happened in this book might happen in real life.  

 

      12.  How is Clarisse portrayed in the book after her death?

                   ~ Even though she is dead, her memory lives on through Montag’s actions.
